It required a fair bit of planning and effort, but this is what we saw this morning:
Yes, we saw Whooping Cranes flying behind an ultralight aircraft to their winter residence, courtesy of Operation Migration. Unforgettable.
Vehicle we saw that traveled the furthest: Washington state. Birders are nuts. Count us among them.
Dr. Pion is a pseudonym for a physicist whose research once included study of the pi meson. His expertise also includes the history of nuclear weapons and proliferation, but his main interest today is teaching "physics for scientists and engineers". He uses the pseudonym CCPhysicist when commenting in certain blogs because he teaches at a community college.
There is no connection at all between this blog and the real people (a veterinarian and a physician) known as Dr. Pion who show up in a Google search on this name.

wow... I'm late on commenting, but this is pretty incredible. Thanks for sharing. We got sandhill cranes over where I am, which are impressive enough, but v. cool to see endangered whooping cranes....
